We all know that our physical health can be nurtured through small, regular acts of care, sometimes with the support of a health professional (think working out and going to the doctor). We all know that taking care of our physical health makes us stronger and more resilient and effective and better able to pursue our goals and dreams.
Taking care of our minds and our psychological health on the other hand can feel like a bit of a mystery and can seem daunting, but it works in very much the same way.
Our psychological health can be nurtured and grown through:
1) A better understanding of psychology, the mind, and ourselves
2) Engaging in small, regular acts of psychological and self care that support our mental health
3) Receiving understanding, empathy, care, and support from others, in particular a mental health expert such as a psychologist
Taking care of our mental health care can make us psychologically stronger and more resilient. This allows us to be more effective in the world. It helps us understand ourselves, learn, grow, change, and thrive. It frees up our energy and makes us better able to pursue our goals and dreams.
Understanding our own mind and taking care of our psychological or mental health is a vital part of taking care of our health and ourselves. And by extension the people we care about and the world around us.
Going to therapy is often the first step.
